Melatonin is a molecule physiologically released by our brain at dusk, which regulates the sleep-wake rhythm. It is also found in many foods such as fresh milk, tomatoes, and bananas. Melatonin supplementation is helpful when having trouble falling asleep.
In particular, taking 1 mg of Melatonin just before bedtime reduces the time needed to fall asleep.
In case of jet lag, the beneficial effect is achieved by taking a minimum of 0.5 mg of melatonin on the first day of travel and for a few days after arriving at the destination.
