Saccharomyces boulardii, is part, as the name indicates, of the species Saccharomyces cerevisae, ie that to which the normal brewer's yeast belongs. Unlike this, however, does not produce intestinal fermentation, and can also be taken by those suffering from intestinal disorders related to the intake of food or drink containing brewer's yeast.

In the intestine, friendly microorganisms and enemies (including Candida) coexist in a positive situation called eubiosis.
This dynamic balance can undergo alterations (dysbiosis) as a result of stressful situations, infections, food intolerances, poor eating habits, and pharmacological therapies such as those based on antibiotics. Or in physiological situations such as pregnancy or menopause.
